Drawing Jazz, Afrobeat and Deep House sensibilities into their deeply moving and carefully considered compositions, Kerrier Collective (Ben Tidy and Alfie Gidley) have been making and self releasing music on Bandcamp since early 2021. They make eclectic music blending Ben's experience as part of London house production team Souled (W/ Tommy Rawson) and staffer at UK dance music institution Black Market Records, with Alfie's reputation as a well respected multi-instrumentalist, built through more than 15 years performing as a live folk artist.
Alfie and Ben meet and make music for the love of the process.
'Sometimes we bang around on the drums and twiddle knobs and strum guitars and tinkle on pianos and absolutely nothing good comes out of it, but we have created an atmosphere where we have so much room to fail and make mistakes and be genuine and as good as we are in that moment. Through that process we sometimes get an end result which is good and we think, yeah, maybe some other people might like this vibe. Whether they do or not, we will continue to get together, make some food, catch up and cook up some music for ourselves.' (Ben)
'Morning Sun,' was born in the back of Ben's Ford Transit (His mobile home for many years) on the farm where he was staying last year. After a long and cold winter physically and metaphorically the first bit of fresh spring morning sun sparked that little bit of Optimistic energy for the future and the first demo of the track was born. A few sessions with Alfie on drums and bass and the skeleton of the track was ready to be sent to Regular collaborator Polly Meyrick for the horn line and solo.
Polly is a Multi-instrumentalist/vocalist and innovative composer, songwriter and arranger, with a love for a wide variety of genres. She has a strong sense of imagery with music, and this guides her song writing process as a horn player and singer and she loves writing what she calls 'hedonistic horn arrangements'- horns that are blasting, grooving and sultry. We spent the weekend together writing and arranging the horns, Polly wrote the horns and we sat their saying, 'Yes! Do that.' Under Polly's expert guidance, Ian Sanderson played the Trombone part, and Josh Westrip played Trumpet on the finished recording.'
The release also features some beautifully crafted remixes from Piers Kirwan, Dun Dun Dun & Tommy Rawson .
This year sees Kerrier Collective reaching a bit further with releases on independent labels Colour Pitch, Brombert Records and of course this release on Boogie Cafe.
